17th September 1944 Operation Market Garden: Monty’s Statue

1944 Operation Market Garden

This was an unsuccessful Allied military operation that ran from the 17th Sept-25th. It had hopes of finishing the war before Christmas. Britains Montgomery was involved as it used land and airborne forces In Holland and Germany. The idea was to gain more of a way into the heart of Germany by a pincher movement destroying key bridges by air “Market” and taking locations by land “Garden” In order to do this it meant conquering challenging areas along the Rhine, which proved unsuccessful. Some of the targets were met others not. It was one of the biggest airborne missions up until that time in WW2.
